Kotlin is a statically typed programming language that runs on the Java Virtual Machine and also can be compiled to JavaScript source code. It was designed by JetBrains, a software development company based in Saint Petersburg, Russia. As with other languages designed for the Java platform, Kotlin is intended to be interoperable with Java code and is compatible with existing Java libraries. Kotlin has been open sourced under the Apache 2 license since February 2016. Kotlin 1.0 was released on February 15, 2017.
